Sip, eat, walk and enjoy

The Langhe area is midway between Turin and Genoa, a rural treasure trove of villages and agricultural landscapes. This tour will drive you through rolling hills, past medieval castles or fortresses perched on hilltops (Grinzane and Barolo castles), into wineries from small-scaled to grandiose. This is the kingdom of Barolo, the king of wines and the wine of the kings. On June 22, 2014, the vineyard landscape of Piedmonte’s Langhe-Roero and Monferrato were included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List as cultural landscapes. The cultural landscapes of the Piedmont vineyards provide outstanding living testimony to winegrowing and winemaking traditions that stem from a long history, and that have been continuously improved and adapted up to the present day. They bear witness to an extremely comprehensive social, rural and urban realm, and to sustainable economic structures. Our first stop will be at a small, family-run Barbersco winery where you will try 3 different kinds of Nebbiolo grape-based wines. The tour continues with a stop in Alba, the capital city of the Langhe area, where we will walk in the narrow, medieval streets, visit roman ruins and should it be Saturday, a visit to the local farmers' market is a must do. Lunch at leisure and if you wish to have a taste of the hearty, local cuisine, I will be more than happy to suggest signature restaurants. In the afternoon, we will focus on His Majesty Barolo wine with a 3-Barolo wines tasting at a local winery’s terrace overlooking the castle of Barolo.
