Hunting, sniffing, hiking tour

This tour takes place in the vineyard area of Piemonte, approx. 80kms. south of Torino that was added in 2014 to Unesco’s World Heritage List. To the uninitiated, truffle may just be a foul tuber or a rich and decadent chocolaty sweet, but to the gourmand, it represents the ultimate in gastronomic delights. Seductive and mysterious, truffles were thought to be an aphrodisiac by the ancient Greeks and Romans.

Their exorbitant price (up to $6,000 per kilogram) is due to their unpredictable growth habits and the fact that no one has been able to cultivate these fungi, which grow in a symbiotic relationship with the roots of oak, hazelnut and poplar trees.

Come and join me, our trifolao (that is, local truffle hunter) and his dog on a truffle hunting adventure that will also be a really exciting way to discover the stunning countryside of this undiscovered region of Italy. And after a solid-3 hour in-depth truffle session we will have a taste of Barolo at a local winery. About 6 hours, 3 stops. Walking/driving tour.
