drink, eat, walk and enjoy

“Il Monferrato” forms part of a promised land for enogastronomy: did you know that this is one of Italy’s largest exporters of wine?

This reputation is mainly based on the area’s red and sparkling-white wines, namely Barbera and Spumante. Think of Barbera as Bar-berry: it is a fruity, mellow-tannins, versatile wine with fresh berry flavors and its reputation as a rustic plonk has changed over the last two decades. Spumante will be the real number 1 surprise ! Many of us associate the by-now, longtime-gone parties where by 11.30 nobody was looking too closely at the wine lables. Well, get ready for the modern and superior incarnation of Asti spumante, ageing in individual bottles.

The Monferrato wine growing area was added to Unesco’s World Heritage List in 2014.  tour. This Monferrato tour starts with a tour of amazing, underground wine cellars where spumante wine is produced in the Champagne or Classic method at minus 32 meters. Stop for lunch at a near-by traditional restaurant serving delicious local cuisine paired with a superb wine list. The tour continues in the afternoon with a Barbera-discovery visit and tasting at a renowned local producer.
